01_ ABOUT THE APP
How does Locum’s Nest work?
Locum’s Nest is a free app that allows you to easily browse and book bank shifts and sessions in healthcare organisations, without having to go through agencies. The app is available to download on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
How are shift/session rates set?
All rates shown on the app are set and advertised by each organisation.
02_ ACCOUNT PROFILE
Why are my verification photos not being accepted?
If you don’t have an NHS email address you will need to upload the following photos:
- Selfie taken with your phone camera at the time of registration
- Photo/scan of a valid ID in full: passport, driving licence or hospital ID card
These are only used for verification purposes and will not be visible to anyone else.
I can’t find my previous organisation in the Employment section
If your organisation doesn’t come up in the drop-down menu, please upload a CV with your full employment history in the My Profile > Certificates > Other section.
I can’t add my referee because they don’t have an NHS email address
If your referees don’t have an NHS email address, you can add the reference in the My Profile > Certificates > Other section.
03_ STAFF BANKS
How do I join an organisation’s staff bank?
To be able to experience the full benefits of the app you need to be a member of a staff bank. You can do this through the app by going to My Profile > Employer affiliations > Join Staff Bank (for your chosen organisation). Alternatively, you can contact your chosen organisation’s HR/Temporary staffing department and they will be happy to help you with the joining process.

*Please note that some Trusts are part of the South England Collaborative, to benefit from all that this offers consider sending a request to just one Trust in the Collaborative (see below for further details on how the South England Collaborative works).
What if I’m already a substantive employee at my organisation?
If you’re a substantive employee, your Locum’s Nest profile will still need to be affiliated to your organisation. You can request to be added to your organisation’s staff bank through the app as detailed above or you can speak to your organisation’s HR department and they will be able to help you.
What is the South England Collaborative?
The South England Collaborative is a group of NHS trusts across the south of England that work together to allow doctors to cover shifts across the member Trusts’ hospitals. You can identify the Trusts that are part of the Collaborative by the pink handshake icon in the My Profile > Employer affiliations section of the app.
How does the South England Collaborative work?
If you are on the staff bank of one of the member Trusts of the South England Collaborative, you are able to apply and work shifts at all the Trusts in the Collaborative. This means you don’t have to go through additional checks and join each Trust’s staff bank separately.
How do I get paid?
All payments are processed by each organisation’s payroll department and not by Locum’s Nest. The timescale of pay can differ between trust and be either weekly or monthly (please check with your organisation’s payroll department to find out which applies to you). You will need to be registered and set up for payment with your organisation before submitting any timesheets to ensure you get paid promptly.
How does payment work within the South England Collaborative?
Payments are always made by the Trust whose staff bank you are registered on, regardless of which Trust you worked the shifts at.
Can I edit a timesheet after I have submitted it?
Once a timesheet has been submitted, it cannot be edited on the app. If you’ve made a mistake and need something to be amended please send a message through the app to the Locum’s Nest team and they will be able to assist you.
The app won’t allow me to submit my ad-hoc timesheet
When submitting ad-hoc timesheets, please note that there is a 3-week cut-off after the shift occurred. If you have surpassed the 3 weeks, please speak to your manager and/or the Locum’s Nest team at firstname.lastname@example.org to get this resolved.
06_ ERROR MESSAGES
I’m getting the following error message:
Submission Error. Oops! There seems to be an error with the following message: “You have to complete your account setup to use this feature”. Please take a screenshot and send this to email@example.com for advice on how to proceed.
If you have recently upgraded your phone or changed a device, there is a chance that the token which recognises you as a registered user has been lost during the upgrade. To fix this, please delete the app and reinstall it. You won't lose any data but simply be asked to log in again. Once you log in again, the token that recognises you as a user will be re-downloaded.
07_ DOWNLOAD DIFFICULTIES
I can’t download the app because the “Get” button is greyed out on the Apple App Store
Check your app restrictions by going to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. Because the app is rated 17+ on the App Store, you will need to turn any restrictions off in order to download and use the app.
Google Play Store is telling me the app isn’t available in my country
The app is currently only available in the UK so make sure your country is set to the UK. Go to the Google Play Store app, select Account > Country and Profiles > Country and set this to the UK in order to gain access to the app.
